Abstract
INTRODUCTION: In spite of adolescents' rights to be involved in decisions that concern their health and life, limited research has been published reporting on their involvement in mental health research. Therefore, we aim to present experiences and reflections based on the involvement of adolescents in mental health research, to describe the collaborative relationship between researchers and coresearchers, including the values that underpin their collaboration.Entities:

Areas of adolescents' contribution to the research project

To assess factors that affect adolescents' choice to seek help for their mental health To assess healthcare services and barriers to adolescents' help‐seeking behaviours To develop means to improve access to and quality of mental health services, including for minority groups To improve adolescents' involvement in their own healthcare To integrate leisure time activities to strengthen social networks and improve adolescents' mental health | ||
| Funding applications and policies | Five separate funding applications were submitted to two different funding bodies, as well as adding leisure time activities to a 4‐year research project. The project will further develop and test this and an eHealth intervention in a population cohort survey, a qualitative study with ethnic minority groups and a randomized controlled trial to test the acceptability, effectiveness and cost‐effectiveness of interventions.
