Abstract
Complete sequences of numerous mitochondrial, many prokaryotic, and several nuclear genomes are now available. These data confirm that the mitochondrial genome originated from a eubacterial (specifically alpha-proteobacterial) ancestor but raise questions about the evolutionary antecedents of the mitochondrial proteome.Entities:
