Abstract
BACKGROUND: Computed tomography (CT) is commonly used in children with mild head injuries. People in Japan are concerned about radiation exposure and radiation-induced cancer because of the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant accident on March 11, 2011. This study investigated whether the accident influenced the use of CT in children with mild head injuries.Entities:

Figure 1. Trends in the proportions of children with mild head injuries undergoing CT examinations from 2006 to 2015. Red circles indicate the actual proportions of patients undergoing CT. The blue circle indicates the predicted proportion of patients undergoing CT in 2011. The blue line indicates the extrapolated prediction if the 2006–2010 trend in proportions of patients undergoing CT had continued. The black-dashed line indicates the month of the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant accident (March 2011).
