Abstract
BACKGROUND: It is well known that adiposity is a risk factor for insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes mellitus. In the present study, we aimed to investigate the associations of measures of adiposity with indices of glycemia and of glycemic variability over a 72-h period in non-diabetic older adults.Entities:

Figure 1(A) Mean glucose trajectory in participants by body mass index (BMI). Results depicted as the mean (SE) glucose concentrations per 5-min interval for a 72-h period. In dark gray, mean (SE) glucose trajectory for participants with BMI > 35 kg/m2. In light gray, mean (SE) glucose trajectory for participants with BMI < 25 kg/m2. (B) Mean glucose trajectory in participants by waist circumference. Results depicted as the mean (SE) glucose concentrations per 5-min interval for a 72-h period. In dark gray, mean (SE) glucose trajectory for participants with the longest waist circumference (>88 cm in women, >102 cm in men). In light gray, mean (SE) glucose trajectory for participants with the shortest waist circumference (≤80 cm in women, ≤94 cm in men).

Analyses adjusted for age and sex. Analyses in Switchbox and Growing Old Together additionally corrected for familial relationships. Data presented as difference in outcome (with 95% confidence interval) in millimole per liter with respect to the reference group. “Mean” presents the mean, unadjusted, and glucose concentration in millimole per liter.
