Abstract
BACKGROUND: Sub-Saharan Africa has the highest incidence, prevalence, and fatality from stroke globally. Yet, only little information about context-specific risk factors for prioritising interventions to reduce the stroke burden in sub-Saharan Africa is available. We aimed to identify and characterise the effect of the top modifiable risk factors for stroke in sub-Saharan Africa.Entities:

Data are number (%) or mean (SD). Some percentages do not add up to 100 because of rounding. p values reported for paired t test, McNemar χ2, or test of marginal homogeneity. WHR=waist-to-hip ratio. BMI=body-mass index. NA=not applicable. CVD=cardiovascular disease.
χ2 could not be computed because a cell had a 0 value.
