Abstract
BACKGROUND: Autoantibodies such as anti-citrullinated protein antibodies (ACPA) are major risk factors for articular bone destruction from the earliest phases of rheumatoid arthritis (RA). The aim of the current study was to determine whether RA-associated autoantibodies also impact on systemic bone loss in patients with early disease.Entities:

Fig. 1Systemic bone mineral density in relation to disease-related variables. Regression analysis of reduced bone mineral density (Z score ≤ -1) in the spine and the hip. Odds ratios (OR) are presented with corresponding 95 % CI levels. All variables were adjusted for age, gender, menopausal status, body mass index and current smoking.
