Abstract
BACKGROUND: The genus Lens comprises a range of closely related species within the galegoid clade of the Papilionoideae family. The clade includes other important crops (e.g. chickpea and pea) as well as a sequenced model legume (Medicago truncatula). Lentil is a global food crop increasing in importance in the Indian sub-continent and elsewhere due to its nutritional value and quick cooking time. Despite this importance there has been a dearth of genetic and genomic resources for the crop and this has limited the application of marker-assisted selection strategies in breeding.Entities:

All lines are L. culinaris except the last two, which are L. ervoides.
Origin indicates where line was originally collected or developed through hybridization and selection.
NT – northern temperate; MED – Mediterranean; STS – sub-tropical savannah.
Single plant selection from IG 72847.
Total non-redundant set of contigs and SNPs detected across all genotypes, respectively.
Figure 1Based on mapping of corresponding homologues, polymorphic contigs span the genome (CviT;[37]). The 1,536 selected for a GoldenGate OPA are indicated in blue while the rest are indicated in green.

Figure 3Genetic linkage map of RIL mapping population LR-18 (CDC Robin × 964a-46) based on gene-based SNP (LcC#) and SSR (SSR#) genotyping. The seven linkage groups likely represent the seven chromosomes of lentil. Cumulative distances are in cM.
Figure 4Dot plot representing correspondences between lentil linkage groups 1 through 7 (top) and chromosomes 1 through 8 (left side) based on alignment and visualization using MUMmer and NUCmer software [[38]]. Major translocations are circled in blue and major inversions in green.
