$, calculated on the day of CDI and two days before. £, one point each is given for an age of > 60 years, a temperature of > 38.3 C, an albumin level of < 2.5 mg/dL, and a WBC count of > 15,000 cells/mm3; two points each are given for the presence of pseudomembranous colitis and hospitalization in the intensive care unit. Severe disease is considered to be present if the patient has a severity score of ≥ 2 points [28].
