Abstract
BACKGROUND: Expression of inflammatory cytokines in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) has led to the hypothesis of intrathecal chronic inflammation to explain the denervation observed in post-polio syndrome (PPS). It has been shown that therapy with intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) improves physical performance and dampens down the inflammatory process at 6 months in PPS patients. We here examined the effects of IVIG on cytokine expression and clinical outcome one year after IVIG treatment.Entities:

Figure 2 Baseline levels of inflammatory cytokines in the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) cells. Cytokines were measured in patients with Post-polio syndrome (PPS) and with other neurological diseases (OND). The median-based box plots indicate 25th/75th percentiles and whiskers indicate 5th/95th percentiles. Values of statistical significance are indicted (n.s.: non significant).
