Abstract
A high index of suspicion should be maintained whenever one organ-specific autoimmune disorder is diagnosed in order to prevent morbidity and mortality from the index disease as well as associated diseases. Further definition of susceptibility genes and autoantigens, and understanding of immune tolerance and the induction and propagation of autoimmune reactions should prove to be the best path to improved diagnostic and therapeutic modalities in the care of these patients.Entities:
