Cholelithiasis and acoustic shadowing.

M Grossman.

Abstract

The importance of the acoustic shadow in the ultrasound diagnosis of cholelithiasis has been stressed in recent reports. In vitro studies of gallstones indicate that the presence and magnitude of the acoustic shadow depend on a number of factors and suggest that a group of small stones may be demonstrable even though no acoustic shadow can be seen.
