Abstract
Etodolic acid (1, 8-diethyl-1, 3, 4, 9-tetrahydropyrano(3, 4-b) indole-1-acetic acid) showed potent anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties in rats. In adjuvant arthritic rats etodolic acid was approximately six times more potent than phenylbutazone. In the carrageenin and the analgesic assays (inflamed paw pressure test) its potency was comparable to that of phenylbutazone. The potency of etodolic acid in the adjuvant arthritic rat suggests that this novel anti-inflammatory compound will be effective in the treatment of arthritic conditions of man.Entities:
