Gastrointestinal contrast agents for MR imaging.

J J Brown1.

Abstract

This article reviews the current status of gastrointestinal contrast agents being developed for MR imaging. The need for a bowel marker in MR imaging and the characteristics of an ideal agent are discussed. The major enteric MR agents are classified and reviewed with emphasis on their relative advantages and disadvantages. Finally, the future role of these agents is considered.
