The reversibility of the delta8-cholestenol-delta7-cholestenol isomerase reaction in cholesterol biosynthesis.

D C Wilton, A D Rahimtula, M Akhtar.

Abstract

The incubation of Delta(7)-cholestenol with a 10000g supernatant or 105000g microsomes in the presence of tritiated water is studied. The reisolated Delta(7)-cholestenol contained up to 0.67g.atom of tritium/mole. This result can best be explained by assuming the reversibility of the reaction Delta(8)-cholestenol right harpoon over left harpoon Delta(7)-cholestenol.
