Abstract
Background: Gender bias has been an ongoing issue in health care, examples being underrepresentation of women in health studies, trivialization of women's physical complaints, and discrimination in the awarding of research grants. We examine here a different issue-gender disparity when it comes to the allocation of research funding among diseases. Materials andEntities:
Keywords: National Institutes of Health; gender disparity; research funding for diseases

FIG. 1.National Institutes of Health funding (2017) versus U.S. burden of disease (2015, normalized to 2017 population). The green line, produced using a power law regression analysis, represents funding commensurate with disease burden.
