Abstract
BACKGROUND: Neonatal sepsis is an important cause of morbidity and mortality among newborns. As there is paucity of literature regarding early alteration of the cerebral blood flow (CBF) in neonatal sepsis our study aims to evaluate the changes in the CBF velocities and Doppler indices in neonates with early-onset neonatal sepsis (EONS) and to evaluate the predictive accuracy of cerebral blood flow velocities (CBFV) by using ultrasound Doppler as a diagnostic marker of EONS.Entities:

Components of the septic screen
| Components | Abnormal value |
|---|---|
| Total leukocyte count | <5000/mm3 |
| Absolute neutrophil count | Low counts as per Manroe chart for the term and Mouzinho’s chart for Very Low Birth Weight infants |
| Immature/total neutrophil | >0.2 |
| Micro-Erthrocyte | >15 mm in the first hour |
| Sedimentation Rate | |
| C reactive protein | >1 mg/dl |
VLBW: Very Low Birth Weight, ESR: Erthrocyte Sedimentation Rate, AGA: Appropriate for Gestational Age
