Abstract
BACKGROUND: Metabolic syndrome (MetS) is one of the main public health problems worldwide. Although some relations between dietary intakes and MetS have been found, few studies have focused on association between dietary nutrients interactions and the risk of the MetS and its components. The aim of the present study was to examine the association between nutrient patterns and MetS and its components among Iranian adult population.Entities:

The multivariate multinomial logistic regression was used for estimation of ORs and confidence interval (CI). Bold Values indicate P < 0.05 as the level of significance. *Adjusted for sex, age, smoking, physical activity, education levels and energy intake. Defined as the presence of at least three of the following components: TG ≥150 mg/dl; WC ≥ 88 cm in women and ≥ 102 cm in men; DBP ≥85 mmHg or SBP ≥ 130 mmHg; HDL-C < 50 mg/dl in women and < 40 mg/dl in men and fasting glucose ≥100 mg/dl. Abbreviations: MetS metabolic syndrome, TG triglyceride, WC waist circumference, HDL-C high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, SBP, systolic blood pressure, D
BP diastolic blood pressure
Fig. 1Prevalence of components of metabolic syndrome across animal-sourced nutrient pattern (a), plant-sourced nutrient pattern (b) and mixed-source nutrient pattern (c). WC, waist circumference; TG, triglyceride; HDL-C, high-density lipoprotein cholesterol; FBS, fasting blood sugar; SBP, systolic blood pressure; DBP, diastolic blood pressure
