Abstract
BACKGROUND: Conditional survival accounts for the time already survived after surgery and may be of additional informative value. The aim was to assess conditional survival in patients with oesophageal cancer and to create a nomogram predicting the conditional probability of survival after oesophagectomy.Entities:

Conditional overall survival estimates
| Total years of survival after surgery | Probability of survival (%) | |||||||

| 0 | 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6 | 7 | |

The probability of survival after surgery is shown in relation to the number of years already survived. For example, if a patient has survived 2 years after surgery, the probability of achieving 3‐year survival after surgery is 83 per cent and of achieving 5‐year survival after surgery is 65 per cent.
