Abstract
BACKGROUND: Early-life dental caries is a major global health problem. Children's first dental visit is recommended at 2 years age. The VicGeneration (VicGen) oral health birth cohort study aims to understand the multifactorial nature of early childhood caries. This report describes the baseline characteristics of children in the VicGen study.Entities:

Overall totals represent the 466 participants. Valid dental caries at the 18‐month age visit was available for 375 participants only. Numbers in some of the sub‐tables may not add up to full total due to missing data. P‐values refer to chi‐square tests for difference between proportions for dental caries experience. Percentages displayed in the dental caries experience column represent proportion within rows. For example, 9.2% females experienced dental caries compared to 4.5% males.
