Abstract
BACKGROUND: As part of a long-standing line of research regarding how peer density affects health, researchers have sought to understand the multifaceted ways that the density of contemporaries living and interacting in proximity to one another influence social networks and knowledge diffusion, and subsequently health and well-being. This study examined peer density effects on oral health for racial/ethnic minority older adults living in northern Manhattan and the Bronx, New York, NY.Entities:

Fig. 1Point locations of residences of ElderSmile participants who are aged 50 years and older from Manhattan and the Bronx, New York City, NY, 2006-2013 (n = 1822), overlaid on top of Census block-level density of the total population aged 50 years and older in 2010
Fig. 2Kernel density estimation surfaces generated for the population of older adults (aged 50 years and older) in northern Manhattan and the Bronx, New York, NY using different bandwidths (h) to define 4 spatial models used in logistic regression analyses of oral health outcomes. Kernel density estimate (KDE) values have units of the number of older adults per square mile
