[Study of stresses in the fractured mandible in man. Theoretical measurement and verification by extensometric gauges in situ].

Abstract

The authors study the various possibilities for measuring the stresses which develop within the mandible under the effect of masticatory forces. Several methods are proposed:--calculation with the aid of mathematical models,---the use of extensometric gauges in vitro with the aid of traction machines,--the use of extensometric gauges in vivo. The results obtained with all three methods are in agreement and, in the opinion of the authors, provide experimental evidence of the well-founded nature of Michelet's technique of osteosynthesis.
