Fit the patient to the prosthesis. An argument against the routine use of custom hip implants.

W N Capello1.

Abstract

There are selected circumstances in which customizing an implant is a solution to a unique problem. However, there are significant reservations as to the need for the routine use of custom hip implants. In fact, it is possible for a customized implant not to function clinically up to the standards that have already been established by the modern, currently available, off-the-shelf implants.
