Abstract
BACKGROUND: Suicidal behaviour is a complex phenomenon with a multitude of risk factors. Brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), a protein crucial to nervous system function, may be involved in suicide risk. The objective of this systematic review is to evaluate and summarize the literature examining the relationship between BDNF levels and suicidal behaviour.Entities:

b3 diagnosis groups: Recurrent depressive disorder, personality disorder, adjustment disorder
cMedians and interquartile ranges presented instead of means and SD
dBDNF was measured in 3 types of sample: platelet-rich plasma, platelet-poor plasma, and platelets. Results are presented here for only the platelet-poor plasma measurement
