Abstract
BACKGROUND: Carpal tunnel syndrome is common among employed persons. Data on sickness absence from work in relation to carpal tunnel syndrome have been usually based on self-report and derived from clinical or occupational populations. a Sickness absence from work from 15 days before to 7 days after the date of first diagnosis of CTS or date of carpal tunnel release surgery; a new sickness absence period is one that started within that time interval. The maximum possible sickness absence duration after first diagnosis for any individual in the study is 720 days.
b Excluding individuals with 100% disability pension.
c New periods of sickness absence from work during 24 months after the date of first diagnosis, occurring in conjunction with any doctor visit in which a primary diagnosis of CTS was registered.
