Abstract
INTRODUCTION: Vaspin (visceral adipose tissue-derived serpin) was first described as an insulin-sensitizing adipose tissue hormone. Recently its anti-inflammatory function has been demonstrated. Since no appropriate data is available yet, we sought to investigate the plasma concentrations of vaspin in sepsis.Entities:

Data is presented as median and intequartile range. Age is given as median (minimum-maximum). APACHE II - Acute Physiology and Chronic Health Evaluation (2nd version); SAPS II - Simplified Acute Physiology Score (2nd version); Maximum of SOFA - maximum of Sequential Organ Failure Assessment score; CRP - C-reactive protein; Vaspin 1 - Vaspin concentration on the day of inclusion.

Figure 1Vaspin plasma concentration in nine patients for eight continuous days. The box represents first, second and third quartile. Whiskers indicate minimum and maximum. Circles indicate outliers. X-axis shows days, Y-axis shows vaspin concentration in ng/mL. Labels show median and interquartile range in ng/mL.
