Abstract
BACKGROUND: Little is known about the incidence and risk of seizures after stroke in young adults. Especially in the young seizures might dramatically influence prognosis and quality of life. We therefore investigated the long-term incidence and risk of post-stroke epilepsy in young adults with a transient ischemic attack (TIA), ischemic stroke (IS) or intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH). early seizures are defined as occurring within the first week after the index event.
late seizures are defined as occurring after the first week after the index event.
p-value represents difference in incidence of recurrent seizures between patients with an initial first seizure versus patients with an initial late seizure, compared with chi-square.
