Abstract
BACKGROUND: Metabolic flexibility described as "the capacity of the body to match fuel oxidation to fuel availability" has been implicated in insulin resistance. Figure 1Fat oxidation in relation to dietary fat was lower (represented by a higher RER/FQ ratio) in persons with a family history of diabetes, and in those who were insulin resistant.
