Abstract
Chemical, morphological and physiological data indicate a close relationship between Brevibacterium imperiale (Steinhaus), "Corynebacterium laevaniforms" (Dias and Bhat) and the species Microbacterium lacticum (Orla-Jensen). It is suggested that B. imperiale and "C. laevaniformans" be reclassified in a redefined genus Microbacterium, as Microbacterium imperiale (Steinhaus) comb. nov. and Microbacterium laevaniformans (Dias and Bhat) nom. rev.; comb, nov., respectively.
