Abstract
BACKGROUND: Lower concentrations of the insulin-like growth factor binding protein-1 (IGFBP-1) and elevated concentrations of insulin or C-peptide have been associated with an increase in colorectal cancer risk (CRC). However few studies have evaluated IGFBP-1 and C-peptide in relation to adenomatous polyps, the only known precursor for CRC.Entities:

Figure 1Mean levels of circulating C-peptide, insulin and IGFBP-1 in adenoma cases and non-adenoma controls. C-peptide (p = 0.05) and insulin (p = 0.008) levels were significantly elevated in cases compared to controls. Mean plasma IGFBP-1 was lower in cases than in controls but the results did not reach statistical significance.
