Abstract
BACKGROUND: Functional decline is associated with increased risk of mortality in geriatric patients. Assessment of activities of daily living (ADL) with the Barthel Index (BI) at admission was studied as a predictor of survival in older patients admitted to an acute geriatric unit.Entities:

A-diagnosis: Primary ICD-10 discharge diagnosis.
B-diagnosis: Secondary ICD-10 discharge diagnosis.
Independent variables: activities of daily living (ADL-group) measured with Barthel-Index, sex, age, comorbidity measured by Charlson Comorbidity Index and ICD-10 diagnoses.
