Abstract
Therapy incorporating the repeated practice of motor tasks has been found to enhance motor function after stroke. This type of therapy may be facilitated by robotic devices and several such devices are being developed for use in rehabilitation. The Myomo e100 NeuroRobotic system is a novel device developed to provide assistance during elbow movements in stroke survivors. The device uses surface electromyographic signals to control a powered elbow orthosis. Data from a pilot study reveals that the device can be used successfully by stroke survivors and suggests that it may be effective in helping to restore motor control after stroke. Further studies are needed to confirm these preliminary results.Entities:
