Abstract
Using the Swedish Family-Cancer Database, the increased risk of breast cancer in women with relatives with the disease did not vary with paternal/maternal lineage. Familial breast cancer heritable component was 73% and the environmental proportion 27%. Familial aggregation of breast cancer in women below age 51 years is mainly due to heritable causes.Entities:

FH=family history; OR=odds ratio.
These estimates were obtained using the excess risk corresponding to the ORs for breast cancer associated with second-degree family history.
The heritable component is assumed to be equal to the third column.
The percentages were obtained dividing the third by the fourth column.
The percentage was obtained by substracting the percentage of the fifth column to 100.
