Abstract
Surgery of the thoracic aorta continues to have a significant risk of neurologic complication. Several strategies to minimize this risk are emerging. Pharmacologic protection from these complications continues to be researched, but at this point few medications are being used clinically. This article reviews the pathophysiology of ischemic spinal cord injury and summarizes the investigational pharmacology that may prevent these serious complications.Entities:
