Abstract
BACKGROUND: Paraplegia is a devastating complication following operations on the thoracoabdominal aorta. We investigated whether histidine-tryptophan-ketoglutarate (HTK) solution could reduce the extent of ischemia/reperfusion (IR) spinal cord injuries in a rat model using a direct delivery method.Entities:

Fig. 1Silk string loops were applied at the aorta distally to the left renal artery and proximally to the aortic bifurcation (white arrow). The left common femoral artery was cannulated with a polyethylene-10 tube (black arrow).
Fig. 2The cross-clamp was applied at the aorta distally to the left renal artery and proximally to the aortic bifurcation. When dye was infused, it was visible only in the occluded segment of the aorta (arrow).
