Abstract
Neurotransmitter transporter genes encode proteins with 12 putative transmembrane regions, which mediate Na(+)-dependent reaccumulation of released neurotransmitters into presynaptic terminals and are the sites of action of important abused and therapeutic drugs. Studies of these genes show promise for improving our understanding of transport mechanisms and modes of drug action, and may even uncover previously unanticipated neurotransmitters.Entities:
