Abstract
Computational biology exploits the evolutionary connectivity between proteins and protein families to predict structural and functional properties of uncharacterized gene products. In the past year, conceptual and statistical refinements have substantially improved algorithms for the detection of remote homologues. In conjunction with the rapid growth of biological databases, the global organization of proteins into sequence families, functional families and structural families has become both pertinent and feasible.Mesh:
