Abstract
The mechanisms and dynamics of antioxidant action of ubiquinol have been studied. Ubiquinol scavenges peroxyl radical faster than alpha-tocopherol. However, it is autooxidized rapidly to give hydroperoxyl radical and/or superoxide and hence its antioxidant potency is smaller than that of alpha-tocopherol. The side chain of ubiquinol reduces the mobility between the membranes. It was concluded that ubiquinol acts as a potent antioxidant in combination with alpha-tocopherol.Entities:
