Abstract
Multiplication of Legionella pneumophila in HeLa cells was found to be inhibited by noncytotoxic concentrations of bafilomycin A1, with blockage of bacterial growth at a concentration 15.6 nM. The inhibiting action was evident only when the antibiotic was present during the initial phase of intracellular multiplication, i.e., during the formation of the phagosome, whereas the addition of the drug did not affect microorganisms already actively multiplying within the phagosome.Entities:
