Abstract
An olfactory sensory neuron most probably expresses a single olfactory receptor gene, out of 1000 choices. Olfactory neurons expressing the same olfactory receptor are distributed over a wide area of the olfactory epithelium, but they project their axons to a few discrete positions in the olfactory bulb, out of 2500 choices.
