Abstract
A suspension culture of the liverwort Plagiochila ovalifolia was established from callus tissue induced by culturing spores. From the cultured cells, four phaeophytins were isolated as major components and their structures determined by spectroscopic methods. The phaeophytin derivatives showed antibacterial activity. A major sesquiterpenoid, ovalifoliene, found in the mother plant, was detected in the cultures by GC-mass spectrometry.Entities:
