Abstract
This review examines factors which influence the expression of foreign proteins in Escherichia coli under the transcriptional control of the lac and tac promoters, and discusses conditions for maximizing the production of a foreign protein using this system. Specifically, the influence of IPTG (isopropyl-beta-D-thiogalactoside) concentration, temperature, composition of the growth medium, the point in the growth curve at which cells are induced with either IPTG or lactose, and the duration of the induction phase are discussed.Entities:
