A clinical evaluation of the tolerance to pivampicillin tablets.

H Hey, T J Medalen, O M Molstad, K Stokholm.

Abstract

The clinical tolrance of 350 mg pivampicillin tablets was evaluated in 470 hospitalized patients in Denmark, Norway and Iceland. The tablets were given to 229 fasting patients and to 241 non-fasting patients at mealtime. Side-effects were reported in 44 patients (9.4%). Upper gastro intestinal disturbances occurred in 3.6% of the patients and lower gastrointestinal disturbances in 4.5% (including diarrhoea in 1.9%). There were no differences in the frequency of gastrointestinal side-effects in fasting and non-fasting patients receiving pivampicillin tablets. The frequency of exanthema was 2.6%.
