Renal oncocytoma.

M M Lieber1.

Abstract

Renal oncocytomas are believed to arise from the intercalated cells of the renal collecting tubules. Specific chromosomal abnormalities, which differentiate oncocytomas from renal cell carcinomas, have been found. Renal oncocytomas exist and behave differently from renal cell carcinomas. Urologic clinical judgement and surgical practice must evolve to keep pace with the knowledge that oncocytomas and renal cell carcinomas are different diseases.
