Longitudinal stress fracture in the femoral diaphysis.

F Schubert1, S Carter.

Abstract

Stress fractures occur in multiple sites but more so in the lower limbs and show a predilection for certain sites. The lower femoral shaft is not a common site and a longitudinal stress fracture is extremely rare. A case is reported of a longitudinal stress fracture in the distal femoral shaft that was not suspected initially despite the patient's athletic activities. Review of the literature did not reveal documentation of any similar case.
