Abstract
Protocols for in vitro amplification of nucleic acids are proliferating and there are now several methods that will contribute both to genetic research and to the diagnosis of a wide range of diseases. Here, I present the working principles of some of these molecular machines for amplifying DNA or RNA and discuss the lines along which new methods of amplifying nucleic acids may be developed.Mesh:
