Total hip arthroplasty: a review of four years experience.

E T Preston.

Abstract

Forty-nine total hip replacements are reviewed after an average follow-up of 32 months. There is an 8.2% dislocation rate and an infection rate of 4.0%. There is a 39% incidence formation of "significant" amounts of heterotopic bone. From a review of the hip rating forms it is apparent that in most patients marked improvement is brought about by the operation.
