Trabeculectomy vs full-thickness filtering operation for control of glaucoma.

M B Shields.

Abstract

A survey of the literature and a comparison of 26 trabeculectomies and 23 posterior lip sclerectomies performed by the author suggest that glaucoma control is comparable between trabeculectomy and full-thickness filtering procedures, although trabeculectomy offers a reduction in some postoperative complications. At the present time, however, there does not appear to be sufficient evidence to claim superiority for one filtering procedure in all situations.
