Tophaceous gout involving the proximal interphalangeal joint.

R H Gelberman, D H Doty, M L Hamer.

Abstract

The extensor mechanism at the proximal interphalangeal joint may be severly damaged by expanding tophaceous deposits. Tophectomy and reconstruction of the extensor tendon is beneficial in patients who respond poorly to medical therapy.
