Epidemiological studies on the relationship between magnesium intake and cardiovascular diseases.

H Karppanen.

Abstract

Data are reviewed which suggest that dietary intake of magnesium may be lower than needed in the industrialized nations in the world. This low dietary intake of Mg appears to be related to the high incidence of ischemic heart disease (IHD) in these nations. Dietary supplementation of individuals in these industrialized nations with Mg is recommended to prevent risk of IHD and other cardiovascular diseases.
