Abstract
A total of 102 isoleucine- and isoleucine-valine-requiring (ilv) mutants induced by insertion of the transposable element Tn10 have been classified to cistron by growth requirement, cross-feeding behavior, and enzyme assays. The mutations are in a polycistronic operon transcribed in the order ilvGEDA and in a monocistronic operon ilvC. Analysis of distal gene expression in these polar insertion mutants revealed the existence of two constitutive interval promoters, one preceding ilvE and the other preceding ilvD.Entities:
